CRC Energy Scheme - What is CRC?
The Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) is the new mandatory emissions trading scheme intended to capture the largest 5,000 public and private sector organisations that aims to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions through energy efficiency.
Sectors affected include retail, leisure, some manufacturing, professional services, many other office based activities and the public sector including local authorities, universities and NHS Trusts etc.
Organisations that meet the qualification criteria will have to participate in CRC.
Once in the scheme you they are obligated to monitor their energy use and purchase allowances, sold by Government, for each tonne of CO2 they emit. The more CO2 an organisation emits, the more allowances it has to purchase.
Any who are required to act but fail to do so will be fined £5,000.
Even those Organisations that don’t qualify but have half-hourly meters will still be required to make an information disclosure.
